This new series of container freight cars is the perfect match for the DC electric locomotives EF200, EF210, and EH200, the AC electric locomotives EF510 and EH500, as well as the JNR EF65 and EF81 locomotives that are currently in service.
1162 KOKI 106s were manufactured between 1997 and 2007.
Its main feature is that it is a general-purpose container freight car that can handle not only standard 12-ft containers, but also non-standard sizes such as ocean containers and tank containers.
The KOKI107 was completed as a general-purpose container car improved from the KOKI106. The brake system was changed to a unit brake system similar to that of the KOKI200, and the hand brake is located on the deck hand sled.
The body frame is painted in the same gray color as that of the Koki 106.
It is mainly used for high-speed freight on main lines, operating at a maximum speed of 100 km/h when the train weight is 1,300 tons (26 cars) and 110 km/h when the train weight is 1,200 tons (24 cars) or less.
They are widely used on the Tokaido and Sanyo Main Lines, Tohoku Main Line to Hokkaido, and the Japan Sea Longitudinal Route. Since they can also load marine containers and tank containers, they can be seen running with a wide variety of container forms.
