Product Details

This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

Converted from the F-4E airframe to serve as the Wild Weasel V, the F-4G utilized its spacious airframe to accommodate a comprehensive suite of electronic warfare equipment. Externally, the aircraft underwent significant changes: the addition of an AN/APR-38/47 RHAW fairing atop the vertical stabilizer, the installation of additional antennas along the dorsal spine, and a reshaping of the fairing beneath the nose -- necessitated by the removal of the internal cannon to make room for specialized avionics. Another distinctive feature is the structural reinforcement applied to the underside of the main wings.

This model kit from Fine Molds faithfully reproduces these unique characteristics using newly tooled parts; furthermore, the instrument panel specific to the G-variant has been newly sculpted to match. The camouflage scheme applied to F-4s entering service in the late 1970s was the "SEA Camouflage" -- a pattern synonymous with the Vietnam War era. The markings included in this kit feature aircraft 69-7208 of the 563rd Tactical Fighter Squadron (563 TFS); this specific aircraft exhibits a characteristic unique to post-Vietnam War airframes, wherein most of the stenciled warning labels are rendered in white lettering. Additionally, as the 1980s began, the camouflage scheme shifted to "European I" -- a predominantly green pattern designed with potential combat operations in Europe in mind. The kit also includes markings for aircraft 69-0253 of the same squadron, featuring the distinctive "shark teeth" artwork painted on its nose.
