With the world facing regional conflicts and international terrorism, the mission of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) ranges from national defense, overseas missions, rescue activities and supplying U.S. and other allied forces. At the time with increasing need of international peacekeeping operations, supply ships, along with escort vessels, have become of great importance.
2006: Dispatched to the Indian Ocean to accompany the escort vessel Inazuma on anti-terror missions.
2008: Dispatched to the Indian Ocean to support escort vessel Suzunami on anti-terror missions
2011: Operated joint rescue activities with the U.S. military in the aftermath of the Tohoku earthquake.
Construction began in 2003 by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Maizuru. Commissioned in March 2005, she currently belongs to Replenishment at Sea Squadron 1 and is stationed at the Port of Sasebo.
