The Mamiya was the Japanese Navy's first full-scale food supply ship, completed in 1924. Equipped with on-board refrigeration and freezing facilities, she was capable of storing fresh food, processing meat, and even producing luxury items like ice cream and yokan. She operated tirelessly from before the war throughout, providing meals for the Marines until she was hit by a torpedo and sunk in December 1944.
