The main line diesel locomotive DD51 will finish its last regular operations this spring, and this model kit from Aoshima is a spectacular way to make it a permanent part of your collection! It made its debut in 1962 to replace the steam locomotives commonly used up until that time; a total of 649 of this locomotive were produced, and ran all over Japan from Hokkaido to Kyushu, serving on both passenger and freight trains. Due to aging, their number has been greatly reduced, and they will be phased out with the timetable revision in March 2021.
This model kit features new parts for its characteristic outdoor unit and heater parts beside the cab. The cover will be removable so you can appreciate the internal engine after completion; photo-etched parts and metal seals are also included. The base is reversible, so you can display it in two different ways: one with a flat trackbed, and the other resembling a maintenance pit line. Don't miss out on the metal wheel set, too! Add this piece of Japanese railway history to your own collection today!
